“Laino & Broken Seeds" is a project born in New York City in 2013 when an Italian guy arrived at his crossroads in a smoky, blues bar on the Upper West Side. He returned to Italy with a notebook full of stories, transformed them into songs with a resonator guitar, then busked them on the streets of Bologna.
Although his first EP (self-released in 2014) had a full band backing him, Laino later condensed the band to a duo: guitar/voice and drums. Since then, the duo worked toward a roots/blues sound, nourished by a small, vintage amplifier and hand-made instruments, producing a sound that falls between rural blues and alternative rock.
“The Dust I Own" will be released on March 24 2017 for off label records. This first full length album shows the ultimate outcome of two years spent on writing songs and playing on stage. Special guests are enriching the new album including the well-known contemporary jazz player Mauro Ottolini on sousaphone, Alessio “Poor Bob" Magliocchetti Lombi on slide guitar, and Eolisa Atti on backing vocals.
Defined as “an erupting growing talent" Laino played in major italian blues and jazz festivals like Deltablues, Vicenza Jazz and Mojo Shakes Festival.
Inspired by afro-american musical tradition Laino feels his primal influences in the music of John Mississippi Hurt, Muddy Waters and John Fahey. His song are also contaminated by a folksinger attitude moving trough sounds that reminds Tom Waits, Tony Joe White or Grayson Capps.
Laino sings and plays resonator guitar, diddley bow, harmonica.
Based in Bologna (IT) his band called “Broken Seeds" feature Gaetano Alfonsi on drums and Mauro Ottolini on sousaphone.
“Born on the sidewalks of my town this project is deeply-rooted in the street performance attitude. I sing songs about everyday life, dreams and personal myth. In accordance with my musical roots (Delta blues, primitive american), I choose to compose my pieces on a single open guitar tuning (G-tuning) exploring it in different ways. This is for me a kind of 'land' in which I saw growing mysterious seeds, sometimes they where mistreated by time, burned or broken. But they bears fruit anyway".
Andrea Laino has played in the following albums:
"The Long Road to the Hall of Fame" by Fabrizio Puglisi
"The Road to Eassouira" by Fawda Trio
